History

Robert Trapp established his law practice in Santa Maria in 1951 and joined with Dan Kirk in 1956 as the firm of Trapp & Kirk until 1972 when Bob was appointed as a Judge of the Santa Barbara Superior Court.

Alex Simas joined Dan Kirk’s established practice to form Kirk & Simas in 1976. Dan retired in 1993. Today Kirk & Simas is recognized as a long-standing pillar in the Central Coast legal community.

Other distinguished Firm alumni include Santa Barbara Superior Court judges, James Rigali and Karen O’Neil; retired Santa Barbara Superior Court Commissioner, Denise Motter; and deceased Santa Barbara County Supervisor, Joni Gray.

Community Involvement

Kirk & Simas actively encourages its entire team to participate in community affairs. The Firm’s attorneys and support staff have provided both pro bono legal support, and have served on numerous local nonprofit boards, foundations, and other civic groups, including: the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Maria Valley; the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society; the Santa Maria Valley YMCA; Santa Barbara County Legal Aid Foundation; the Orcutt Union School District; the Guadalupe Union School District; Allan Hancock Community College; the Marian Medical Center Foundation; the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens; the Oasis Senior Center; Leadership Santa Maria Valley; the Altrusa International Foundation of Santa Maria; and the Orcutt Children’s Art Foundation.

Firm attorneys and staff also actively participate as a team in many community events and fund raisers.
